Out with the old

2 May
“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

I found this quote on one of my friend’s Facebook walls. While I don’t normally share my political opinions on my blog, this quote just spoke to me today, after watching all of the media coverage of yesterday’s event. Perhaps it’s the part of me that wishes everyone could just get along, but all of the “America is the best” stuff kind of saddened me today. I will leave it at that, because I think MLK, Jr. said it best.

On a different (not so sad) note, my last day of classes is officially over! By the time I got home tonight, it was almost 7:00. I was hungry and exhausted, but I made it through the day. It hasn’t hit me yet that I’ll never have to go back for another class again. Come fall and “back to school” season, I’m sure that will change.

It is also time to review my April goals! I feel like I say this every month, but April really did just fly by. Let’s see how I did, shall we?

April Goals in Review:

1. Every Sunday, create a workout schedule for the week. Kind of successful- I created a schedule, but I altered it every week. Life gets in the way of workouts sometimes; I’m learning to accept that fact, rather than stress out about it!

2. Post an Operation Beautiful note once a week.  I did not do this. One problem being, I could never find any Post-Its. Note to self: buy Post-It Notes!!

3. Go to bed earlier. April was busy, busy, busy for me. When I don’t get home until 8:00 at night, I have to push back my bedtime in order to finish homework. Thank goodness that will not be much of an issue this month!

Look- the Easter Bunny knows how much I need my sleep. He brought me a sleep mask this year 🙂 !

4. Clean out my closet. This is on my “I’ll do it after I graduate” list.

5. Try a new class at the gym. Success! I tried Body Toning and Cardio Kickboxing this month.

6. Read a book that is in no way related to schoolwork.   I actually didn’t have time for this. My eyes (and brain) hurt from staring at books and computer screens all day long, so they need a break when I get home. I should have plenty of time to read in May though.

This book is waiting for me…

7. Take my boyfriend on a date. I still owe him a date…

8. Get a haircut.  I know, I’m gross. I’m going to be that girl who grows her hair so long, that it’s hanging past her butt. Only kidding 🙂. I’m calling my hair place this week. Okay, I’m calling tomorrow.

9. Try a new recipe for breakfast. Kind of successful. I made some new cereal combos, and added new toppings to my oatmeal. Since it’s getting warmer outside, I have been craving cold breakfasts, but I always seem to resort to my hot oatmeal. If you have any good recipes for cold breakfasts, send them my way :).

10. Land a job. No such luck (yet).

Did you accomplish your April goals?

Do you have any good breakfast recipes that you’d like to share :)?

I definitely agree with you— celebrating just seemed odd to me, even if it is a step toward some kind of peace. It just seemed to go too far.

I agree in every part of this. I hated that people celebrated it-like what.

I haven’t been getting enough sleep seriously. I need to just rest more because it is taking a toll on my body.

What a great quote. I was happy that we finally did “catch” Osama but it was a little intense how everyone was so celebratory about it. I’m sure you will have pkenty of time to accomplish your goals once you are done with school! Goal number 1 tonight is clean my room, I wrecked it the last few days:(

I think that quote is right on… and that’s all I’ll say about that.

Anyway, I did awful with my April goals!! I’m embarrassed to even write a recap of them.

Hooray for being done with classes!!

I think that quote is great, but did you know its not (totally) a real quote? This article was posted on my facebook news feed today…crazy!

the fact that MLK didn’t actually say this doesn’t take away from the sentiment though…

Great job on your goals! Try overnight oats with chia & banana slices, it’s my favorite summer breakfast.

This is so funny. For my may goals one is to get a haircut. I’m gross too! Lol. It’s so hard when school takes up all your time though. I’m crossing our fingers that we both get gorgeous cuts this month!

I felt the same way about the “America is the best” attitude I’ve been seeing. I think it’s a good opportunity to remember the victims of terrorism and to thank our military for otheir service, but I don’t think it warrants frat party behavior, you know?

Re: goals, I’ve been jotting down a few mini-goals each week, which has helped me a lot more than doing them each month. I have a few longer-term goals on my list, but weekly ones help keep me from getting too overwhelmed!

My favorite breakfast is almond butter on whole wheat toast with a side of greek yogurt, almonds & banana. Boring but delicious 🙂

P.S. – How the eff did I spell my own name wrong on the previous comment? Man, that’s a first….

Congrats on the last day of classes! Monday was my last day too, although I still have another 15 page paper, a 25 page paper, and two finals next week. Yuck!

Good luck with your finals and the job search! I’m looking too and it can be SO stressful…
