My first day

25 Jul

This is what one looks like after the first day on the job, after having over two months at home without a routine.

I am tired. I walked in the door at 6pm, and by approximately 6:25pm, I had traded my dress for cheer shorts and t-shirt, washed my face (I’m not used to wearing eye make-up all day long!), and thrown my hair into a messy bun. I feel like myself again ;).

Besides coming home exhausted, I had a good first day. I met a few of my co-workers, I spoke with my supervisor several times throughout the day (she seems very nice!) and I attended my first meeting. I also got my company laptop set up and published my first story for the web! I would be lying if I said it weren’t a little overwhelming. I am learning the back end of the website that I am writing for, as well as the different social media sites that the company uses. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it after a few days. The cool thing is, I’m actually getting paid to write full-time :)!

The thing is…I’m not exactly sure how I am going to fit blogging and workouts into my schedule yet. I skipped tonight’s workout because my shoulder has been bothering me all afternoon, and I’m going to try to make this blog post quick since it’s now 7:20pm and I haven’t eaten dinner yet. I don’t know how some of you work full-time, have a family, and keep up with blogging two or three times a day! I give you credit, because I don’t think I could balance all of it! I’m sure I’ll work out my schedule quirks in time. I have about a 40 minute commute, an hour in traffic, so that’s the frustrating thing at the moment. If only I could blog and drive… (just kidding!)

When I got home tonight, there was a package waiting for me on the counter. I was very excited, as I treated myself to a birthday present last week and ordered something I had been eying on Pinterest, then Etsy.

(Please ignore my chubby fingers…even though I’m 23, I still have “baby hands”)

The owner of the Etsy shop describes the ring as the true love ring- sterling silver and stamped with your initials. I first saw the ring on one of Lisa’s Pinterest boards, where the caption read “Am I too old for this?” I had to wonder the same thing. Would I look silly wearing a ring with the initials of Jordan and I?

After thinking about it for about…five minutes…I decided that I am not too old. I think it’s cute, I think it’s kind of romantic, and therefore, I am going to wear itΒ  :).

So there you have it. My day was filled with work, and a cute little package. Plus some other things, but I still haven’t eaten dinner and “The Bachelorette” will be on soon. Obviously I must get going since I have pressing things to do ;)!

Enjoy your evening!

How do you balance work, blogging and workouts?

Congrats on getting through your first day. The first day is always the hardest! It always takes a couple weeks to get in the swing of things, so if your first day was good then that’s great!

When I start my job, which will be in around a month’s time, I have NO idea how I will manage my schedule. Luckily, I am moving and will be able to live 5 or 10 minutes from work. I know a lot of people get up before work to workout; not sure if that will work for me, but we’ll see. It’s a possibility.

I wanted it after seeing it on Pinterest too! haha lucky!!

Congrats on your first day! Writing full-time and geting paid–how amazing.

I’m a full-time grad student with a part-time job and a major gym obsession. I fit it all in by reading on the train, blogging during my lunch hour, and minimizing sleep time! πŸ˜‰ Also, instead of doing one long workout in the gym (like running 10 miles or swimming 2), I use several different machines for shorter times to maximize intensity and therefore efficiency. I might do a 5k on the elliptical at a 7-min mile, then row 2k at high intensity, then bike 20k, then swim 1000m: since I’m alternating muscle groups and going short distances, I can get a much greater burn per hour than if I were ONLY running or ONLY swimming.

Then again, I’m crazy when it comes to exercise, sooo… πŸ˜‰

Congrats on getting through your first day! It’s always a little nerve-wracking at first (at least it was for me).

It took me a while – a lot of trial and error. But I sort of had to train my body to stay up later to work out. I usually go straight to the gym after work, or I have discovered waking up at the butt crack of dawn (like 5AM) and sneaking a run in before work surprisingly spikes me energy for the day!

Blogging is my late night activity that I do as I’m winding down. I take the time to read blogs throughout the day (sneaky), or just before I write mine! Hope this helped πŸ™‚

First of all, let me just say that you won’t always be as tired as you were after your first day. I have about 6-7 weeks off in the summer (I’m a psychologist for a school district), and the first week or so back is always exhausting. So it will get better!! πŸ™‚

But that being said, I just started blogging for the first time this summer. And I don’t know how I’m going to balance it all when I go back to work. Work, work outs, cooking dinner and cleaning, spending time with the hubby, and blogging… it will be a lot! But I really love blogging, so I’m determined to make it work!!

    Best of luck! πŸ™‚

Congrats on your first day! I totally understand the feeling–I’m always SO beat after my first day of work. It gets better, though (especially once that first payday rolls around!).

When I worked full time in the the 9-5 (or rather, 8:30-4:30) sense, I learned to really use my free time to the max. I guess I still do that because I work more than full time now, but anyway…. The things that had to get done always took priority (making my lunch, working out, getting to bed on time). Absolutely everything else (Facebook, TV, whatever) became secondary. If I had time for it, awesome. If not…oh well. It takes some getting used to, but trust me: you’ll find your routine soon enough πŸ™‚

Glad the first day went well!

It’s tough to get into a routine, but you will. Trust me, you’ll find the time to workout! Have you thought about waking up early to do it? I get up at 5 to get a run in!

Hey girl! It IS really tough to fit everything in. I am still working it out myself. But there’s got to be a way to do it, I think it just takes a lot of planning on the front end to have time for everything.

congrats on the first day! it does get easier to manage your energy but fitting it all in is finding a process (one I’m still working on) can definitely do it!
