When Jordan and I got engaged, I had several people tell me that the wedding planning process is stressful. Though the first couple of weeks were a little bit overwhelming, it hasn’t been nearly as stressful as some people made it seem. The stressful part has been thinking about our life after the wedding- the part that people seem to ignore when you tell them you’re getting married.
Sure, the wedding will be romantic and fun and full of joy- but it’s just one day. We have a whole life ahead of us, and that’s the part we have to prepare for. Right now, we’re trying to find a place to live. The only time I’ve lived away from home was when I lived in a college dorm, so this is a new and nerve-wracking thing for me.
We’ve decided to look into buying, and it requires a lot of work (I’m learning). In the past couple of days, I’ve become familiar with down payments and homeowner’s insurance and brokers and banks and PMI and property taxes and other stuff that I’m probably forgetting. If you aren’t familiar with any of the above, don’t worry, I don’t know what I’m talking about either I’m still learning too.
As soon as Jordan wakes up this morning (and hopefully that’s soon… ;)), we will be heading to the bank to talk about mortgages. This is the first big thing we’ve done without the help of our parents, and I must say, it’s exciting, but also a little scary.
Before I go, I must leave you with this little bit of comic relief that’s been floating around the internet (it’s funny, but only in America :)). In the meantime, I’m gonna go put my big girl pants on and face the day :). Enjoy your weekend!
Good luck!! I’m starting to line up interviews and such for post-graduation now that my first semester of senior is over…another ‘big girl’ experience!! We can do it!!

Good luck! My sister and her husband are trying to buy a house and it is confusing! They said it gets much easier as you get into it though!
It is definitely overwhelming! I’m glad it gets easier :).
Exciting! My boyfriend and I are currently renting, but have decided this spring to start saving for a down payment on a house. I tried researching information on mortgages, and you’re right – it is confusing!
Good luck! If other people can figure it out, so can we :).
Buying a house is a very big deal! I’m sure you’ll figure it out, and definitely ask for help! I took personal income tax this semester in law school and learned a bit about mortgages and that kind of stuff, but just an overview. I’m sure it can be very overwhelming!
i can’t believe you’re looking into buying a house! i feel like i’m just getting used to the whole out-of-college thing…i couldnt even imagine! props to you for handling it all so well! i am sure you both will figure it all out soon π
Wow that just seems so surreal to me. You seem like you have such a level head on your shoulders (why I love reading your blog).
I totally went through all of that π We bought our house 3 years ago (tomorrow).. and it was scary.. We have learned a lot since then, so if you need some advice let me know. I have knowledge π
There are so many things, that you won’t learn unless you talk to someone who has been through it.
