Fitness Loves of the Week: First Edition

I cannot express in words how happy I am that it’s Friday! And that I don’t have to go into work today ;). Even though it’s a short work week for me, it seems to have gone by incredibly slow. Maybe this warm weather is playing tricks on my mind?

Anyway, I told you yesterday that I was going to discuss my February goals today, but I think I’ll hold off on those until Monday. Today, I’d like to participate in my first edition of FLOW- Fitness Loves of the Week. Lindsay, from In Sweetness and In Health, came up with the idea. It’s kind of like What I Ate Wednesday- but instead of talking about food, we’ll be talking about fitness!

This week, I want to talk about spinning. When I started spinning, a couple of years ago, I hated it. I only went because it added some variety to my workout routine, and it was offered at convenient times.
I went to class once or twice a week, but after realizing that I was taking it for the wrong reasons, I decided to give it up. I wasn’t enjoying it at all. I needed a break.
Fast forward two years….and spinning is one of the workout classes that I look forward to the most. In a quick 45 minutes, I get a very sweaty workout accomplished- and since I can adjust the resistance myself, I can make it as hard or as easy as I want to. I thrive on the dark environment of the “classroom,” the fast-paced music that pumps me up, and the people spinning beside me.
So, what changed in those two years? Me. The spin class is exactly the same as it was two years ago, but I’m not. It just goes to show that our fitness loves will change from day to day, from week to week, from year to year. There’s no reason to label ourselves as “runners,” “yogis”, or “spinners,” because then we’re just locking ourselves into one type of fitness. Why not enjoy all forms of it?
I will continue to spin once or twice a week, but if or when I get sick of it, I’ll move on to something else :). If you haven’t tried spinning yet, look into it at your local gym. It takes some time to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, you might just fall in love with it!

    I need to get back into spinning. I use to do it but the seat seriously hurts my bum! Haha, nice FLOW post 🙂

    Yay! Love this post! It makes me miss spinning so bad. I haven’t taken a class in over a year! The ones at my gym now are never offered at a time that is convenient to me..boo! Thank you so much for linking up! I hope you continue to do so 😀

    Wow this is super inspirational. As you may know-I hate biking and spinning. I just can’t handle it.. i think one day I’ll start to like it when I get tired of doing other things but I’m glad you enjoy it so much!

    I have never tried spinning before! My gym doesn’t offer classes like that, but I have thought about seeing if I can get some kind of podcast to use on the bikes that they have there. I love the idea of not strapping ourselves into one category of fitness…all about balance 🙂
