My Personality

13 Apr

Yesterday, I read this personality survey on Colleen’s blog, but she gave credit to Aubrey, who came up with the brilliant idea. Basically, it’s a survey for you guys to get to know me better. If you read my blog every day, or even every once in a while, you may feel that you know me, but of course it’s not possible for me to document every single moment in my life on the blog. I hope this helps you learn a little bit more about me :).

10 Questions About My Personality

1. When a cashier in the checkout line at the grocery store is being a grump for no reason, how do you typically react?

I usually use the self-checkout, if the store has one, to avoid these types of situations. I like checking out my own groceries, and it makes things go a lot faster. Last week, however, I was at Panera and the person at the counter was very rude to me. The guy who rang up my order said I was dining in, when I was actually in a hurry and needed it to go. The line guy at the other end of the counter snapped at me when I told him that the other guy rang it up wrong, and I wouldn’t be eating there. He blamed me for the cashier’s mistake, and though I didn’t say anything to him but “thank you” for putting my food in a bag (seriously, did I ruin his day because of that?), I was a little hurt and angry when I left. I just try to remember that, for all I know, he’s some guy with his Master’s degree who couldn’t find a job so he had to take one at Panera. I know that’s the situation for a lot of people these days. And if not, well, I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

2. Are you the type that likes going out with your girlfriends or staying in?

To me, going out is going out to Mexican for dinner, or grabbing sushi for lunch. I’ve never been one to frequent bars or clubs, and my friends aren’t into that scene either. I think some of the best times we’ve had are going for walks and catching up after work or going to out to dinner with our significant others on a Saturday night. I’m a bit of a homebody, and at this point in my life, I really wouldn’t want to be any other way.

3. Do you sob and get emotional watching romance movies?

Surprisingly, not usually. I say surprisingly because in my own life, I am an over-emotional mess on a regular basis. Then again (spoiler alert), when Rue died during the ‘The Hunger Games,’ I cried. And that wasn’t even a romantic movie.

4. What stresses you out the most?

The unknown future stresses me out. I realize that this is silly and completely out of my control, but I have a lot of anxiety about it. I’m a planner and a perfectionist, and I just want things to work out in my life. This is where I need to let go of control. I should probably take up yoga.

5. What do you think people think of you?

People who don’t know me very well probably think I’m a timid, quiet, good girl. My real friends and family know otherwise. Sure, I’m still a people pleaser and try to do my best in every situation, but I’m not always quiet or polite. In fact, many times I’m very a blunt — sometimes, a little too blunt. People that really know me know that I wear my heart on my sleeve, I speak my mind and I’m stubborn, and I can be fun and goofy just as easily as I can be quiet and reserved. It just depends on who I’m with.

6. When you overindulge do you hit the gym to burn it all off, or just accept the indulgence and follow your same routine?

In my college days, I would hit the gym 7 days a week to burn off that dorm food — even though the dorm food I was eating was semi-healthy and not hurting my waistline. It was an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise. Today, I enjoy the indulgence and move on. Sure, I might push myself a little harder during my workout the next day, but I’m not going to work out for hours and hours or restrict myself from eating certain foods. I think it’s important that we all splurge every once in a while.

7. Are you easily annoyed?

To sum this up in one word, yes. Unless I’m with kids. I have much more patience with kids, because I know that they’re still learning.

8. What do you think is your biggest personality flaw?

I can be passive-aggressive in social situations when I’m not with my close friends or family. Instead of speaking my mind like I would with those whom I closest to, I’ll hold all of my feelings in and avoid confrontation. This ends up hurting me and those around me, because I’ll let all of those emotions out once I get home, instead of just dealing with them during the day. I care too much about what people think,  especially those who don’t know me, so I feel like I can’t confront them when I have a problem. I’m working on this one.

9. What is one thing you don’t think people see enough of when it comes to your personality?

I’m nicer than people think. Because I can be shy when I first meet people, they can take it the wrong way and think I’m being rude or anti-social. Usually I’m just quiet because I have nothing to say, or because I don’t know them well enough to open up. I’m also not as shy as people think. I hated being known as ‘the shy girl’ in high school. When I went to college, I tried my hardest to get rid of that stigma. Now that I’m in the working world, I almost feel like I’m back in high school. People judge quickly, and if I don’t have the chance to open up before I’m labeled, I’m going to take it personally.

10. Can you feel relaxed in a busy crowd or messy room?

It depends. At work, my desk has to be organized or I won’t be productive. At home, my room isn’t as big of a deal because I don’t spend a lot of time in there, and I can go to other rooms of the house to relax. When I have my own house, I’m sure I’ll feel differently. When I lived in a tiny dorm room in college, I cleaned and organized every Saturday. It was my own space (not my parents), and I wanted to take care of it.

Now it’s your turn! Answer a few of the questions from above.

I’m with you on what constitutes “going out.” I like going out to dinner with friends, going for hikes, seeing a movie, etc. But I typically prefer to be home and in bed by 10:00. 😉

We definitely share the same personality flaw. I’m also very passive-aggressive and I tend to hold it in and unleash on those closest to me. I have always cared too much about how people perceive me, and I tend to overcompensate. But hey at least we acknowledge it right?!

so i essentially agree w/you on every single one of these, right down to the use of the self-check out and not crying during emotional movies but being crazy emotional in real life!
