Just Do It

11 Jun

My new camp, Cooks with Books, is right up my alley. Today we made homemade applesauce and apple pie in jars, and tomorrow we’re making pizza. I miss my Disney camp, but I love to bake, so it’s going to be a fun week! It’s also going to be a long week — or should I say, the days are going to be long (literally). It’s my turn to work overtime. I don’t mind it because it’s basically just two hours of playing with kids on the playground, but it makes for a long day — I just need to get used to it! Feeling exhausted when I got home tonight, I had two options : plop on the couch and stay there for the night, or exercise. I chose the second option.

I “wogged” (walked/jogged) — 2.4 miles of walking and jogging intervals, and let me tell you, it wasn’t pretty. It was hot and humid, I was tired from a long day, and all I could think about was dinner. The truth is, I haven’t ran so much as a mile since my last 5K. Running outside, after giving up running for a month, is tough – hence, the intervals and 13 minute average pace.

It’s okay though, because I did it. Sometimes we have to do things that make us uncomfortable, and tonight, the thing that made me uncomfortable was my “wog.” I better get used to feeling uncomfortable, considering that I’m beginning my half marathon training in two months!

On another note, you might’ve noticed that I figured out how to set up Nike+ on my iPod nano. For those of you who have already joined the 21st century, I’m sure tracking workouts is no big deal, but coming from someone who has yet to buy a smartphone, I’m pretty excited to use my iPod and Nike+ to track progress (although I’m not sure that it’s super precise?). Once I start my half marathon training, you might be seeing a lot more of those silly screenshots on the blog.

And with that, it is bedtime for me. I’ve got another 9 1/2 hour day tomorrow, and I need to be well-rested!

Do you use a website or app to track your workouts?

I used Nike+ Gps on my iPhone to train for my half marathon and I LOVED it! Great job on your “wog”. I laughed every time you wrote that 🙂

I’m training for my first 1/2 marathon in January so it will be fun to read along with your training! I am a new runner, only started in January, so I definitely have plenty hard days still! What matters is that you finished it. I saw a photo on Pinterest the other day that said 7 minutes or 14 minutes, a mile is still a mile. Good for some perspective on harder days!
