Friday Things

10 Aug

1. I am so intrigued by the new TLC show, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” And by intrigued, I mean, I don’t know whether to cover my eyes and cry, or stare at the screen in shock. I just don’t know…

2. I made a mistake in last week’s post. I didn’t start my half marathon plan this week, because I actually start it next Monday, the 13th. On Wednesday, I went to Athletic Annex to get properly fitted for new running shoes. After walking around barefoot and running in front of guy who has 8 marathons under his belt (very helpful, but a little intimidating, I must say), I now have my first pair of Brooks, and I’m ready to start training!

3. First, it was Gabby Douglas’ hair (too messy?), then it was Lolo Jone’s physique (too sexy?), and now it is McKayla Maroney’s body language.

Yes, in that split second, she looks ungrateful, but should we be so hard on her? She’s 16-years-old. She’s tired. She worked her butt off for her entire life only to be that close to the gold medal, and then she didn’t get it. Give her a break. It seems like everyone has something to say about female Olympians. What about the boys?

4. Yesterday, my mom, sisters and I went back to paint pottery for the second time this summer. I can’t believe that the last time we were there was at my bachelorette party — 7 weeks ago! This summer flew right by.

5. Yesterday, I baked this. Feel free to drool over the recipe, or make it yourself this weekend.

6. I have a self-cleaning oven. Yesterday, when making the above recipe, butter spilled all over the bottom of my oven, and it needed to be cleaned. So, my apartment is currently filled with smoke, my eyes are burning, and I’m just waiting for the two hour cleaning process to be over. I don’t know how smokers live in apartments. They must constantly live in a fog.

7. Today is my grocery shopping day, and I’m really looking forward to it. Does that make me weird?

8. I’ve been making dinner for Jordan nearly every night since we’ve been home. He hasn’t complained about any of the meals yet, but he did say that he was very impressed by my baked barbecue chicken. If only he knew how easy it was (Weber Grill barbecue sauce + Emeril’s Essence)! I guess I’ll be making that again :).

8. I checked out this book from the library on Wednesday, and I have yet to open it. I think I’ll make that change while I sit and make sure that my kitchen doesn’t set on fire.

Have a good weekend!

Friday Things

13 Jul

1. I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster this week. I had my first meltdown on Wednesday, when I walked into our apartment and noticed that Jordan put our dresser in the guest room instead of the master bedroom. I was planning to put our clothes away, but didn’t want to do it until it was in the right room. And of course, I wasn’t strong enough to move it on my own. Clearly, that’s something to cry over.

2. I waited until the last minute (ahem… Wednesday) to buy my wedding day makeup, and when I saw the price light up on that little ULTA cash register, I almost had a heart attack and contemplated returning it all. Why is makeup so expensive?

3. There are advantages to living in an apartment. One of those advantages is the pool. I enjoyed that perk two times this week. Not for too long though — I don’t want to look like a lobster on my wedding day!

4. There is a 50% chance of rain on Saturday. As you may remember, we haven’t had rain in weeks months. I know that rain on your wedding day is supposed to be “lucky”, but I’m pretty sure that’s just what they tell brides so they don’t throw a fit on one of the biggest days of their life. Please pray that the rain will hold off until Sunday — or at least until after our outdoor pictures. It’s going to be nice and sunny, it’s going to be nice and sunny…

6. I’m not sure if I’ll make it back to the blog world before the wedding, and it definitely won’t be a priority of mine while I’m on my honeymoon unless I get bored on the plane, so please enjoy the guest posts I have lined up over the next week and a half. There are a lot of good ones!

7. Or if you’re nosy (like me) and looking for wedding details before I get back, check out my sisters’ blogs, This Life is Sparkling and My Crafted Life, or my cousin’s blog, Life of Lauren Lou.

8. And I’m off…let the rehearsal day begin!

6 Jul

1. Today was my last day of summer camp. This week was cruise-themed, and to end the week with a bang, we had a “fancy dinner & dance.” We wore fancy party dresses and ate fancy food (spaghetti, green beans and garlic bread — for lunch). I’m not quite sure how I feel now that I am done — it doesn’t feel real. I mean, didn’t camp just start?

2. One week and a day from now, I will be getting married. I feel like an emotional wreck right now, because I have so many things to think about and so many emotions to deal with. I’m excited, sad, nervous and anxious all at once. I’m wondering how I’ll feel when I’m not working and have even more time to think about it!

3. Last night, my friend and I went shopping after work. I went with the intention of buying two pairs of flip-flops, and ended up with one dress, three shirts, and a wedding day clutch. No flip-flops, though!

4. As far as wedding planning goes, I’ve decided that my cut-off for any last minute details is Wednesday. If it’s not done by Wednesday, it won’t be getting done at all. At least, that’s what I’m saying now.

5. I can now add “short bus driver” to my resume. I was the designated bus driver for field trips this week, and after a couple of laps around the parking lot, I was allowed to take it on the road. I actually learned how to drive in a full size van, so I guess all of that practice paid off ;)!

6. I have to be honest — I kind of feel like crap. Thanks to the holiday, I’ve been eating way too much junk this week, haven’t gotten more than 6 hours of sleep per night, and I’ve exercised a grand total of two times. A sweat session is in order before dinner tonight, and I need to get myself back on the healthy bandwagon. I don’t want to feel like this so close to the wedding! The 105 degree temperature and humidity isn’t helping much either — I could barely get my ring on my finger this morning!

7. I must work out now. Have a great weekend!

Friday Things

29 Jun

1. I have not seen Jordan since last Sunday. To say that our lives are busy would be an understatement. I miss him, and I’m so excited to spend tomorrow night celebrating his birthday, one day early, at this place

2. My cousin is traveling to one of the greatest places on Earth today. I’m excited for her, but also a little sad that I’m not going.

We used to take vacations there every year when we were younger, and we made so many good memories. Eat some taco pizza and Kilwin’s ice cream for me, Lauren!

3. It’s official. At 1:00 on Sunday afternoon, we will be apartment renters! Now I just have to make sure that Jordan doesn’t do anything too crazy at his bachelor party on Saturday, since he’ll have to be all ready to sign paperwork and move in come Sunday. We timed that out nicely, didn’t we ;)?

4. Yesterday, one of our five-year-old campers told me that I have “crazy hair.” Why yes, my messy bun does get even crazier when it’s 104 degrees and humid outside. Naturally, I felt a little self-conscious after that was said. Five-year-olds always speak the truth, and I don’t want to be known as “the crazy hair lady” — although I guess it could be worse. Even so, I might try wearing my hair down tomorrow.

5. Jello and crayons were my two worst enemies yesterday. I splattered melted crayons (craft project) on my white American Eagle tank top, and not-quite-set Jello (kids’ snack) on my light blue Nike running shorts. I was not a very happy camper. Who can find me something on Pinterest that will show me how to get those stains out :)?

6. Last night, I had a few minutes to sit on my porch (and do nothing) outside. I can’t remember the last time that I did that, and it makes me sad. In high school, my friends and I used to sit on the grass, look up at the stars, and talk for hours. I love how peaceful that feels  in the summertime and I hate how I don’t take more time to enjoy it. That needs to change.

7. It will be a miracle if I can finish Jordan’s birthday dessert before we leave for dinner tomorrow night, but I’m going to try —  I’ll just make it on Saturday. Either way, I am thinking about making these, or these. Who wants to help me decide?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Things

15 Jun

1. Blogging has been put on the back burner this week. I didn’t even touch a computer yesterday — kind of crazy, considering I used to spend up to 10 hours on that thing. It’s a nice though. I’m actually living my life instead of just writing about it.

2. This week, Jordan and I made one of the toughest decisions that we’ve ever had to make together. We’ve decided that we’re going to rent instead of buy. It was an emotional decision, but a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and his. I’m excited to sign a lease and have a place to call our own.

3. From now until July 14, I will be in full wedding planning mode. This weekend, we’re ordering our cake, and I need to go pick up my veil. My bachelorette party is next weekend! I can’t believe how fast June has gone by.

4. Yesterday officially marked one month until our wedding, and that also means one month until we’re on a plane to Hawaii! I need to start researching cool places to eat (eating good food is a top priority, of course).

5. Remember when I was rewarded with my favorite candy last week at camp? Today, we’re being treated to pizza. I’m getting so sick of typical lunch food, so it’ll be a nice treat (and one less thing for me to have to worry about this morning).

And with that, it’s time to drive to work!

Do you ever get tired of lunch food/ packing your lunch?

Friday Things

25 May

1. The most exercise I’ve gotten this week is a two mile walk around my subdivision — and that was an accomplishment. I was just glad I made it a whole 30 minutes without having to blow my nose.

2. Speaking of blowing my nose, I have officially gone through three boxes of Kleenex in less than one week. I’ve also used my neti pot more times than I can count. If Jordan no longer finds me attractive, I won’t be offended.

3. Today, I am substitute teaching in fifth grade. Quite the opposite of kindergarten, I’d say. My background is in grades K-3, so I’m anxious to see how it goes.

4. I just finished reading this book. I highly recommend it.

5. I plan on starting this book next. It’s written by a blogger, and I just can’t get enough of her family. Read her blog, at least one time. Her photos will make you melt.

6. Sleep and I have not been friends lately. When you agree to substitute teach, you agree to be on-call during early hours of the morning. Waiting for the phone to ring (or not ring) makes me anxious.

7. I recently learned that my fiancé can do a yoga tripod on cue. I, on the other hand, can barely manage downward dog. I mean, really? Life’s not fair ;).

8. Speaking of yoga, I think it might be time to give it another try. I’ve never been a fan, but it’d be a good way for me to strengthen my arms and abs before the wedding, without the added stress that weight training puts on my body. Bethenny Frankel swears by it… maybe (eventually) I will too?

Do you practice yoga?

How often have you worked out this week?
