Honeymoon Recap, Part 6: My 24th Birthday

7 Aug

On Sunday, July 22, I turned 24-years-old…and I just happened to be in Hawaii (which I did not take for granted — I’m sure that was a once in a lifetime thing!). I woke up to a birthday card on the comforter, courtesy of my new husband. I heard him rustling around before I got up, and sure enough, he was filling out my card :). He told me that I could choose what we did that day, so the first thing that we did was go to breakfast. We upgraded to the all you can eat breakfast buffet, and I ate plenty. I’m not normally a juice drinker, but that guava juice (the pink stuff) was so good!

After breakfast, we went to the gym for a run. He doesn’t enjoy working out as much as I do, but he enjoyed the treadmill TVs and didn’t complain at all :)! After a good run, we hung out by the pool for a while, before going to the spa! Jordan booked a couples’ massage, a new experience for both of us.

Before the massage, we each hung out in separate locker rooms. I sat in the hot tub and steam room for a little while, and then we were off to another room for our massages. Honestly, I wasn’t too thrilled with my masseuse. I was sore from my run and I wish that she would’ve used more pressure, but I’m guessing she was gentle since I told her that it was my first massage. That hour just flew by, and after filling up on some chocolate covered macadamia nuts and fruit-infused water (lunch of champions), we were back to hanging out at the pool before dinner.

That night, we went out for a sushi dinner and Haagen-Daz ice cream.

It was the perfect ending to my birthday! And it’s okay that I didn’t have a cake, I celebrated with my family the weekend after we got back from vacation, and got to make a wish then :).

I only have one honeymoon recap left, so if you’re getting sick of them, the end is near :). Have a great Tuesday!

How did you/will celebrate your birthday this year?

Friday Things

22 Jun

1. I feel like I have so much to share with you guys, and not enough time in the day to write my thoughts down! I think I might start preparing posts on the weekends so they’re ready to go during the week. Is that the secret to bloggers who write multiple times a day? If not, I’m convinced that they must live in a special world with 26 hour days.

2. My bachelorette party is this weekend! We will be getting crazy at a paint-your-own pottery place ;), going out to dinner, and drinking fruity drinks. My cousin is coming into town from Michigan for the party, and I’m excited to catch up with her!

3. I just received an email from my boss asking me if I’d like to take off the whole week of my wedding rather than only taking off the Thursday and Friday before. Yes, please! As the wedding gets closer, I’m realizing how many little things that I still need to do, and I want a couple of days to relax and take it all in too. I really haven’t had time to let it all sink in yet!

4. Rupert’s daughter goes to my camp. Last Monday, he dropped her off in the morning, and it caught me off-guard — usually her mom brings her. I don’t watch ‘Survivor’ anymore, but I did watch during the season that he won — so I’ll admit, I was jumping up and down a little bit (inside my head) when I saw him. If you don’t know who he is, just ignore this thought and move on ;).

5. Speaking of kids at camp, all of them have such interesting, diverse backgrounds. One girl in particular is originally from Japan. Everyday, I look forward to checking out her food at lunch, because everything looks so darn good! She eats with chopsticks, and the other kids (and me) think that it’s so cool. Seeing all of her food makes me crave Japanese food, so naturally, Jordan and I went out for sushi last night. Unfortunately, we had terrible service and some of our hot food was cold. I could say, “we won’t be going back there again,” but I know we will (we always do) — probably next week.

6. One week from Sunday, we will have the keys to our apartment. Three weeks Saturday, we will be getting married, and three weeks from Monday, we will be on a plane to Hawaii! Things are coming up so fast. I’m excited, but nervous too.

7. I’m still unsure about what I’ll be doing come August, but I have a good feeling that things will be okay. One thing’s for sure — I’m really going to miss these kids when I’m done with camp two weeks from now!

8. On Friday nights, I am content with being anti-social. I’ve had a tiring week, and all I want to do is eat dinner and go to bed early. For this reason, I am currently debating whether or not I should go out with Jordan’s family for dinner. Anyone else hate making conversation after a long day at work? I hope that it’s not just me…

Have a wonderful weekend!

License to Wed

31 May

One online application and $20 later, this duo is one step closer to becoming one ;).

I almost thought that it wasn’t going to happen. When they asked us if we were under the influence of alcohol or drugs (a required question), Jordan said, “Maybe.” He likes to think he’s so funny.

To celebrate our almost-married status, we out for sushi for dinner.

And enjoyed it outside on the restaurant’s patio.

We both started with ginger salads, and then split an order of veggie fried rice and edamame.

To finish off our meal, I had an avocado roll, and he had a crunch roll (crab, veggies, some kind of sauce).

Dinner was great, but our day wouldn’t be complete without something sweet. After walking home from the sushi restaurant, we picked up my sister and went back out for frozen yogurt.

Orange Leaf will be getting too much of my business this summer. You know what I recently learned? A serving size is one ounce. I want to meet the person who only gets one ounce of fro-yo (that’d be less than $0.50). Not me, that’s for sure. I enjoyed all 11 ounces of mine (those toppings weigh a lot) — a perfect ending to a great day.

It’s hard to believe that the only thing standing between Jordan and me and a legal marriage is our pastor’s signature! It’ll be here before we know it.

If you’re married, how soon did you get your marriage license before your wedding?

How many ounces of fro-yo do you get?

A Very Family Valentine’s Day

12 Feb

With Jordan out of town, my Valentine’s Day plans (at least any romantic ones) are non-existent. I’m okay with that- we’ve been dating for a long time, and we don’t need a Hallmark holiday to celebrate our relationship. That doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy red and pink hearts and a night out on the town, though! So this weekend, I made it a point to celebrate Valentine’s Day (weekend) with my family- I kind of love them too ;).

On Friday night, my sister and I had a dinner date at our favorite sushi restaurant. It was nice to hang out and catch up with her. With our busy schedules, we barely have time to talk to each other during the week!

Since we were starving by the time we got to the restaurant, we each started with a ginger salad.

The ginger dressing makes the salad…I could literally drink a cup of it by itself…that wouldn’t be gross or anything.

After our salads, we split an order of edamame and veggie fried rice.

And for the main course, avocado and cucumber rolls.

You think we’d be full after that Japanese feast for two, but we were both craving something sweet. Since the only frozen yogurt place in town just happens to be located right next door to the sushi restaurant, we decided to walk next door and enjoy some! I ate mine before taking a picture, but you can take my word for it- it was good :).

My sister date continued on Saturday, with a trip to the movies to see “The Vow.” It was a good movie, but I was little disappointed in the lack of details and abrupt ending. It’s still worth seeing in the theaters, but the romance is lacking a little- definitely not as good as “The Notebook.”

When my sister and I returned home, my parents had a Valentine’s themed dinner planned for the family.

Heart-shaped pizza! That, of course, is when it was almost gone, but it began in the shape of a heart :).

And for a special Valentine’s dessert… ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

How cute is that? We only get DQ cake once or twice a year, but when we do, it is so good.

I think I’m all Valentined out…for now, at least. My Valentine’s Day treat ideas are piling up on Pinterest, so I might bake something today. And I still haven’t talked to Jordan since he left, so today, all I really want is to hear from him!

Enjoy your Sunday!

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day?

I’m not going back

14 Jul

Right now I should be on my way to the second session of my cake decorating class, but… I have decided not go back. I’ll just be blunt- the class was kind of a joke. One hour and 45 minutes were spent discussing how to ice a cake…and about 10 minutes were spent on the actual decorating part. I almost fell asleep. The class just reinforced what I already know about myself- I enjoy baking much more than I do decorating, and I enjoy teaching myself. Now that I have purchased all of the materials, I can teach myself at home.

Wait, scratch that. As it turns out, you have to buy more supplies before the start of every class. So while $22 seemed reasonable for a four session cake decorating class, it actually adds up once you add in the price of the additional supplies every week. So by not going to the class, I’m not losing money, I’m actually saving :).

Instead of going to today’s class, I am ordering sushi and enjoying some time at home. Since my sushi is supposed to be ready in 15 minutes, I must get going. Avocado rolls are calling my name :).

Enjoy your Thursday!

Do you like sushi?

9 Feb

Yesterday resulted in too little of this,

and too much of that.

Before I knew it, the day was almost over and I had not eaten since lunch, which led me to this place for late night (or, um, 8:30 pm) takeout,

which led me to consume a plate full of avocado sushi:

And resulted in no time for blogging. A stomach full of sushi + an episode of “Teen Mom 2”, and I was out.

I’ll resume the blog challenge tonight. In the mean time, I will fold my whites and head off for a nine-hour day of school.

Oh, the excitement ;).
