Friday Things

30 Mar

1. I could really use a day off. I mean, I could really really use a day off. But since I don’t have any time off, I’ll just stay in bed as long as I can before I absolutely have to get up for work. Which should be right about now…

2. While everyone else is busy reading The Hunger Games series, I’m working my way through Bethenny Frankel’s A Place of Yes. It’s bascially an autobiography and self-help book wrapped into one. If you like Bethenny or could use some career and life help like me, I suggest you read it.

3. Speaking of The Hunger Games, Jordan has convinced me that we should go see it this weekend. Yes, Jordan. Apparently it’s all people can talk about at his work. Let me remind you, he’s an engineer and works with, basically, all men, so now I’m even more intrigued — what is all of the hype about? I guess I will know by the end of the weekend.

4. Gas prices have risen to $4.20. I drive to work to make money, and by the time I get there, it’s basically spent. I saw it “on sale” for $4.08 yesterday and got excited. 4.08. That’s how much I make in…well, you don’t need to know that :).

5.  I now have a total of 20 minutes to get ready. Looks like it’s going to be a ponytail kind of day.

4 Sep

When I was in school, Sunday was the day I dreaded. The homework day, the sit in my room studying alone day, the “I hope I cleaned and organized yesterday, because none of that will get getting done today” day. It was the day I would spend reading articles, writing papers, and participating in online group discussions. It was kind of a “no fun” day.

Now that I have graduated, however, my perspective on Sunday has changed. I no longer have to sit in my room doing homework. I no longer have to get everything done on Saturday so that I have time to study on Sunday. I no longer have to tell Jordan to stay away all day so that I can concentrate on cramming for a Monday exam.

Now Sunday is a sleep in day. A make a big breakfast day (today I made Chocolate Covered Katie’s blueberry pie pancakes). A go to church, then spend the day with Jordan day. A clean if I feel like it day, an exercise if I want to day. An anything day.

No more school. No more homework. No more exams.

Now I really like Sundays. Especially when followed by a holiday on Monday.

Time to go enjoy the long weekend :).

What are you up to this holiday weekend?

It’s Friday, it’s Friday, it’s Friday!

Okay, so you obviously know it’s Friday, but I have gained a new appreciation for weekends now that I’m working. When I was in college, I had a love/hate relationship with weekends. Even though it gave me a chance to sleep in, it always was my chance to catch up on homework. Now that homework isn’t an issue, I have the weekends to do as I choose! Kind of.

Last weekend I was in Michigan for my cousin’s baby shower, and this weekend I will be going out of town again for my friend’s bachelorette party.

It should be a good time though. My friend and her fiance decided to have a combined bachelor/bachelorette party, so I can bring Jordan with me :). This means I can catch up on my reading while we’re making the three hour drive (Jordan is the designated driver, obviously), and we get to spend quality time together after doing our separate things all week. It’s a win-win!

I’m going into work early this morning so I can get my allergy shot before the doctor’s office closes, so I must get going. Enjoy your Friday!

What’s your favorite day of the week?

What are you doing this weekend?

Pizza and beer

18 Jun

After yesterday’s surgery consultation, and an afternoon that just seemed to fly by, Jordan and I had a relaxing evening at home- swimming, cooking, and watching The Glee Project (my newfound guilty pleasure). We rarely make dinner together, because, well, we both still live at home and sometimes it’s hard to squeeze through four other family members to get to the kitchen counter or oven, and usually the ingredients we buy for one dinner costs as much as it would for two meals, had we eaten out. I know, I know, lame excuses.

Anyway, last night we decided to spruce up on our cooking skills (or lack thereof), and make dinner at home. Per Jordan’s suggestion, we went with homemade pizza. I do realize that this is one of the easiest things one could make, and it was more a matter of preparation than actual cooking, but hey, it’s a step in the right direction ;).

Pepperoni, mushrooms, sauce, cheese, and a crust were purchased. I also threw a carton of strawberries into the cart, which we proceeded to eat throughout the pizza preparing process- finishing off the entire carton by the end of the night. At least they’re healthy, right :)?

While I layered the ingredients onto the pizza crust…

Jordan did “what men are supposed to do”…

Just teasing…he read his comics after he helped me in the kitchen :).

We chose to make dinner at Jordan’s house this time, and I always forget how unfamiliar with his kitchen he is.

He looked through just about every drawer to find the oven mitts, and then he we had some trouble with the oven timer. Shows you who does the cooking at his house (he doesn’t read my blog, but for the record, I’m just teasing him and love him despite his unfamiliarity with his own kitchen 😉 ).

Eventually we figured everything out, and the pizza was a success.

We paired it with a beer (of the root variety).

I’m convinced that Jordan loves his root beer almost as much as Pea Daddy. When browsing through the “health food section” of Kroger, I saw Jordan eying a six-pack, and knew he wanted to take it home with him :). For not being much of a pop drinker myself, I thought it was really good- spicy, and not super sugary like most types of root beer.

As far as today goes, I plan on getting in a good workout (which I failed to do yesterday), and enjoying an early Father’s Day celebration with my family.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Do you cook with your significant other?

What are your favorite pizza toppings?

This Friday’s so…Bootylicious?

22 Apr

TGIF (and Happy Earth Day and Good Friday)! Instead of sleeping in and lounging in front of the TV on this day off, I got up earlier to enjoy a repeat of Monday’s breakfast, and try out a new class the gym. Today’s class was called Cardio Jam/Turbo Kick. It was basically a kickboxing class set to music, and after a sweaty hour of kicking and punching, I was more than ready to go home and take a shower. I’m not sure this is a class that I would take regularly, but it was nice to try something new.

*      *      *

Yesterday, the wonderful Lauren awarded me with the Bootylicious Award.

Doesn’t this remind you of the Destiny’s Child song? They used to play that song over and over on the radio. Ah, high school memories. I never was a fan of that song, but I am appreciative of the award. Thank you, Lauren :).

Here are the rules:

1. Post this award with the picture, and name whoever tagged you in it

3. Award 7 others and tell them you did so!

1. Name three things that are lying right next to you

2. Name two foods you cannot live without

3. Name one thing you did today

Let’s get started, shall we?

1. Three things that are lying next to me:

– My phone. It’s an ENV2. I can’t give in to the $30 smart phone data plan yet, don’t judge ;).

– My cup of water (for the record, it’s sitting not lying). I drink sooo much water. The other day I counted, and my water intake totaled 15 cups. Granted, this includes during and after workouts, but sometimes I think I have a water addiction. The more I drink, the more I crave…

– My stuffed animals. I still live at home, therefore, I still have my childhood stuffed animals on my bed. Please tell me I’m not the only 20-something that has yet to get rid of them :)?

2. Name two foods you cannot live without

– Chocolate. If you have ever read my blog, you could’ve guessed this one yourself. If you’re new to my blog, you will learn soon enough. It is a mood lifter, after all :).

– Oatmeal.

Mmm..pumpkin oatmeal

I could eat oatmeal for every meal. Although I eat it a lot for breakfat, I also tend to crave it for lunch and dinner. Did I just say that I crave oatmeal? Yeah, I’m 80 years old cool like that 🙂

3. Name one thing you did today

Since I already told you what I did this morning, I will tell you one thing that I am going to do this evening. My honors society is having an initiation ceremony this evening.  I am already an inducted officer, so I get to read a few lines and light a candle (sidenote: I can never seem to get those lighters to work; this should be interesting). It also gives me an excuse to wear a dress, and eat dinner downtown :).

There you have it, “my stuff” for the day. I will pass this award on to seven lovely, or should I say “bootylicious,” bloggers:

Grace @ yourdailygrace

Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries

Michelle @ Living, Learning, Earning

Caitlin @ Diary of a Scatterbrain

Jess @ A Taste of Confidence

Hollie @ Lolzthatswim(andrun)

Nicole @ Of Cookies & Carrots

And now I am off to do homework before tonight’s event :).

Happy Friday!

A new perspective

25 Mar

So now that all of you were able to hear my accent, I think that it’s time to hear something else- a new perspective (aka- a post that is not written by me).

Here’s the thing. I have five weeks of college left . I officially placed my order for my (annoyingly expensive) cap, gown, and tassel today. It has hit me that these last five weeks are going to fly by, and they are going to be very busy. My weekend normally begins on Friday, but instead of sleeping in and relaxing today, I am driving to campus to attend a meeting and work on a group project. Tomorrow I am volunteering at Gleaners Food Bank again, and finishing up some work from home. Not to mention, I need to do homework and continue job searching! Just thinking about my to-do list makes me tired.

This is where you guys come in (Is it weird that I hate that I ended this sentence with a preposition? Don’t answer that 🙂). I would love to have some guest bloggers contribute over the next five or six weeks. I am going to set a goal of having two guest posts per week, so I will need about ten to twelve bloggers total. If you don’t have a blog, but read blogs and want to take a stab at writing, I would love to hear from you, as well! Contact me at perfectionisnthappy@gmail.com if you’re interested, and we’ll figure out dates and topics.

Well, I am off to lead a meeting and work on my History of Theatre II project (oh yeah…fun fun).

Enjoy your Friday!
